At the beginning of the next 5000 years, two men will rise: Jonathan Boyles - a quiet, efficient, NASA computer programmer; and William Floke – a con man/messiah raised on the plaque rotted surface of Mars. Baseline humans, robots, cyborgs, clones, AIs, and tweaks will compete to claim their place in a social order ruled over by super-corporations. Eventually the children of the programmer and the messiah will meet on a rainy planet circling Ross 128 to determine if humanity will be allowed to infect the rest of the galaxy, or if the gate will be closed by humanity’s children. And in the background, controlling it all, the secretive Council of 6 will be watching. This tale was inspired by events in the Orion’s Arm universe.
